This double bill brings together a pair of Bay Area-based bands whose raucous blends of early jazz, blues, and global elements has made them among the most exciting ensembles on both the local and national scenes.

ABOUT BARRIO MANOUCHE
Led by Spanish guitarist Javi Jiménez, Barrio Manouche performs a repertoire of original compositions with an emotionally charged sound that is difficult to classify yet instantly recognizable. The group’s international roots shine brightly in their music with members from Spain, Quebec, France, Brazil and California and is deeply influenced by a wide range of musical traditions. With latest collaborations including French Flamenco dancer Fanny Ara, African sacred dance Brazilian dancer Emaye Ama Mizani, as well as Colombian singer Iván Rondón, Barrio Manouche plays what is perhaps the truest definition of World Music

ABOUT GAUCHO
Made up of musicians associated with the Hot Club of San Francisco, Turk Murphy, and Tin Hat, Gaucho is a masterful Bay Area sextet that combines the influence of Django Reinhardt with ragtime, New Orleans swing and gutbucket blues. Led by eminent guitarist and Hot Club of San Francisco veteran Dave Ricketts and featuring accordionist Rob Reich, trumpeter Leon Oakley, guitarist Craig Ventresco, bassist Ari Munkres, and drummer Steve Apple, Gaucho transports listeners back in time. Blending instrumental acuity and lighthearted humor, they take the French jazz manouche tradition straight back to the gutbucket, creating a uniquely American concoction.
