Learn to record, mix and master your projects from scratch in this three-day intensive! Join acclaimed recording engineer and producer Heidi Trefethen for an insightful class at the SFJAZZ Center covering the basics of recording, mixing and mastering for home studios. In this three-day series, students will learn the concepts of the recording studio signal flow, work with various types of microphones, and learn how to record and edit vocal and instrumental tracks. Heidi will also demonstrate best practices for mixing multitrack sessions and the mysteries of mastering techniques to make your tracks stand out from the crowd. Recommended for musicians who want to take control of their studio productions.
In this three-day course, students will learn valuable audio production skills including:
- Recording Signal Flow
- Microphone Overview
- Mic Placement Techniques for vocals, drums and instruments
- Using Effects
- Mixing Techniques and strategies
- Best practices for Mastering
Students will work on their own projects in class during break out lab sessions.
Students are encouraged to bring their own laptops and headphones to this class.
A small number of computers will be available to students by advance reservation only.
No experience required. Open to all levels. Apps used: Garage Band, Logic, Ableton Live.
Software not required to attend.
NOTICE | COVID-19 VACCINATION
SFJAZZ requires proof of vaccination against COVID-19 prior to entering the SFJAZZ Center. All patrons must provide proof of having completed the initial course of vaccination, and a government issued photo ID to enter the SFJAZZ Center. (A student ID for people under the age of 18 is acceptable). Vaccination validation apps such as CommonPass and Clear, VaxYes are also accepted. Based on the updated requirements of the Department of Health, boosters are no longer required.
