The GRAMMY-nominated singer with the silken voice and masterful sense of swing returns with music from Come What May, her 2021 album debut for Club44 Records focusing on gems from the Great American Songbook that celebrates her 20th anniversary as a recording artist.
A remarkable musician who has always had one foot in jazz and one in cabaret, Monheit has come a long way since her debut at the Thelonious Monk Institute’s 1998 International Vocal Competition, and performances at the White House, on The Late Show with David Letterman, The View and The Today Show showcased a performer whose appeal extends far beyond the jazz stage.
The stylistic breadth of her thirteen albums clearly shows a love for timeless standards, the Broadway stage, the Brazilian pop of Ivan Lins, and the hits of Paul Simon, Judy Collins, Paul Williams, and Judy Garland, and her newest session is a confident statement of purpose by a vocalist comfortable in her own skin and with the music she loves.
Five years after her expansive Nicholas Payton-produced tribute to the First Lady of Song, The Songbook Sessions: Ella Fitzgerald, Monheit returns with the intimate Come What May, offering up career-highlight performances that balance well-loved standards like Billy Strayhorn’s “Lush Life” and Rodgers & Hart’s “My Funny Valentine” with comparative rarities including Jobim’s “Samba Do Aviao” and Harold Arlen’s 1934 Broadway ditty “Let’s Take a Walk Around the Block.”

Ms. Monheit has made a career out of silver linings and their pursuit, applying the pristine sensuality of her voice to songs of cozy reverie.
