Original show description below.

Reuniting after their 2014 collaborative album All Rise: A Joyful Elegy for Fats Waller, pianist Jason Moran and GRAMMY-winning bassist and singer Meshell Ndegeocello share this exclusive duo evening, performing a set of freshly-imagined material with the same undeniable chemistry that made their salute to the jazz innovator so successful.

Winner of a MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship in 2010, Moran has released a series of projects as satisfying conceptually as they are sonically, showcasing his capacious intelligence, rollicking touch, and road-less-traveled sensibility. Since he emerged in the late 90s in the quartet of alto saxophonist Greg Osby, Moran has developed at an exponential rate, honing an approach that soaks up inspirations and reconfigures them to suit his own exacting needs.

The Berlin-born Ndegeocello was one of the first artists signed to Madonna’s Maverick Records label, which released her landmark neo-soul album Plantation Lullabies in 1993. A GRAMMY winner and 11-time nominee, the bassist and singer has collaborated with Robert Glasper, Herbie Hancock, and The Blind Boys of Alabama, and built a career as an uncompromising artist whose deliriously funky and soulful work is a powerful commentary on race, gender issues, and LGBTQ+ rights.

In Ndegeocello, Moran has found a collaborator whose shared value of ceaseless exploration makes them truly kindred spirits.
