Hide the presents and spike the punch! The irrepressibly funky Jazz Mafia collective celebrates the season with their Holiday Heist, purloining songs from under every tree. Featuring soulful vocalists, rollicking horns, and the ambidextrous work of Mafia chief Adam Theis pivoting from bass lines to trombone riffs, Holiday Heist offers something for everyone.

With smart and sassy arrangements by former SFJAZZ High School All-Star Kyle Athayde and tuba expert Jonathan Seiberlich, the Mafia holiday songbook ranges from James Brown’s “Soulful Christmas” and Tchaikovsky’s “Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy Remix” to cartoon classics “You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch” and Vince Guaraldi’s “Linus and Lucy.” The holidays are just the latest racket to come under the influence of the Jazz Mafia’s hard-boiled beats. Over the past two decades, the Bay Area outfit has steadily expanded its territory, maintaining the loyalty of longtime associates while inducting eager young players into the ranks. Multimedia performances, burlesque productions and touring stars have all found themselves moving and grooving to Jazz Mafia riffs.

What makes the Jazz Mafia such a potent brand is that Theis has attracted a disparate constellation of talent that touches just about every corner of the Bay Area music scene
