“The most promising American jazz singer to come along since Cassandra Wilson” (Boston Globe), Houston-born vocalist and songwriter Kat Edmonson has been on a steady ascent since her early appearance on American Idol, becoming a major draw on the Austin scene and releasing her 2009 debut album Take to the Sky, which made the top 20 on the Billboard jazz chart. Since then, Edmonson has capitalized on the momentum, touring worldwide with Lyle Lovett and performing in duet with him on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno before recording her second album, 2012’s Way Down Low and the 2014 follow-up The Big Picture – both of which hit #1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart.

With a sweetly mellifluous soprano echoing Blossom Dearie’s lighter-than-air approach as well as her gift for evocative songwriting, the 34-year-old is a rare artist who embodies the spirit of the past while remaining resolutely au courant. Edmonson's charming and seamless blend of old and new has garnered much deserved attention, with the singer performing an NPR Tiny Desk concert, appearing on Austin City Limits and A Prairie Home Companion, and on screen in Woody Allen’s Café Society with New York’s premier early jazz ensemble, Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks. She sang with Western Swing masters Asleep at the Wheel on one of David Letterman’s final Late Night shows, and this year released her new cinematically inspired Sony Masterworks album, Old Fashioned Gal.

Part bashful debutante, part starry-eyed fiancée, part world-wise seductress, her voice possesses a singular expressiveness that puts her at the curious intersection of Karen Dalton, Blossom Dearie and Eartha Kitt.
