Kronos Festival 2019 closes with a celebration of Pete Seeger, who would have turned 100 in May. Kronos performs songs the folk icon and social activist popularized with folk artists Sam Amidon and Lee Knight, and singer-songwriter Meklit Hadero, among others. Amidon also joins Kronos for a set of songs that include his contributions to Kronos’ Folk Songs album. Kronos, artist-in-residence Valérie Sainte-Agathe and the San Francisco Girls Chors premiere Malian singer Hawa Kassé Mady Diabaté's composition written for Kronos’ Fifty for the Future education initiative. The San Francisco Girls Chorus also performs Aleksander Kościów’s meditative Hílathi. More details to be announced; check below for up-to-date program information.
For 45 years, San Francisco’s Grammy-winning Kronos Quartet has reimagined and redefined the string quartet experience. Kronos’ fifth annual music festival spotlights their frequent work with singers and storytellers in four concerts and other events over three days.
[Kronos] isn’t of an age but for all time—a daring band of virtuosi who’ve performed around the globe and brought home sounds from everywhere, spreading their lifesaving, mind-expanding, soul-uplifting vibrations like transcendental evangelists speaking in tongues.
