Mary Stallings Meets the SFJAZZ Collective

Mar 31 - Apr 01
Miner Auditorium

There will be a Pre-Concert Talk on Saturday 50 minutes prior to the show. This is a free event for ticket holders for that evening's show.

In an inspired collaboration, Mary Stallings’ final two nights as Resident Artistic Director pairs the singer with SFJAZZ’s resident super-band, the SFJAZZ Collective. It’s a rare opportunity to hear Stallings perform with a larger ensemble, and to hear the Collective work with an outside artist on material outside their repertoire

ABOUT MARY STALLINGS
A supremely soulful jazz singer, San Francisco native Mary Stallings has appeared alongside jazz greats including Cal Tjader, Dizzy Gillespie and the Count Basie Orchestra over her stellar career. With her supple sense of swing, blues-inflected phrasing, and gift for empathic interpretation, it’s easy to see why The New York Times declared her “perhaps the best jazz singer alive today.” Since her return to music following a nearly three-decade hiatus she has been enchanting audiences worldwide and recorded eleven sessions for Concord, MAXJAZZ and High Note, culminating in her latest High Note album, But Beautiful, featuring longtime accompanist and piano star Eric Reed. Stallings has a long history with SFJAZZ, receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award at our 2011 Gala, performing the opening song during the historic Opening Night concert at the SFJAZZ Center.
