Original show description below.

Returning after her March 2019 Hotplate performance honoring Antônio Carlos Jobim and Elis Regina’s classic 1974 collaborative album Elis & Tom, the Moscow-born, Bay Area-based vocalist Campagne brings an evening of the timeless bossa nova sounds of Brazil.

Beginning her musical life with classical cello and piano studies at Moscow’s Gnessin State Musical College, Campagne was introduced to jazz and bossa nova through the influence of her grandfather Matthew Fayans, a professional wind player who worked with the legendary Metropole Orkest, whose live concerts and record collection turned her musical direction to jazz, and particularly, to Brazilian bossa nova.

Moving to San Francisco in 1991, Campagne immersed herself in the local scene as a performer and educator. Winning 1st prize in the prestigious DownBeat Student Music Award touched off series of events that soon found this multilingual talent gracing the stages of Yoshi’s, Kuumbwa & Monterey Jazz, to name a few.

Campagne’s evocative approach has reached new levels of recognition when she partnered with Rio-born pianist/composer Jasnam Daya Singh (formerly Weber Iago) producing acclaimed 2007 Caminhos Cruzados and 2012 follow-up album Like Water, Like Air where Campagne emerged as a composer. The lyricism & tenderness of Campagne’s originals have gathered strong critics acclaim. Her soulful portrayals of Brazilian bossa & samba effectively convey the concept of ‘saudade’; for the intimacy & wistfulness are truly Campagne’s gift!

Campagne has also recorded with mentor & friend Brazilian guitarist/composer Guinga and German harmonica and vibraphone virtuoso Hendrik Meurkens.
