The Paco de Lucía Project

Nov 08
Herbst Theatre, War Memorial

Created by 10-time Latin GRAMMY winning musician and producer Javier Limón, The Paco de Lucía Project reassembles the final band that toured with the legendary flamenco guitarist for the last 10 years of his career before his death in 2014.

Though he had become the a major flamenco star in Europe by the 1970s, De Lucía was largely unknown in the U.S. until the seminal 1981 recording Friday Night In San Francisco with jazz stars John McLaughlin and Al Di Meola – a landmark release that cemented de Lucía’s status as an iconic figure and a peerless virtuoso who, over his five-decade career, single-handedly reinvented the flamenco vocabulary. A close friend and longtime collaborator with de Lucía, Limón received a Latin GRAMMY for de Lucía’s 2003 release Cositas Buenas as well as his work with Diego el Cigala and Bebo Valdés, and is one half of the celebrated global music duo Magos & Limón. For this tribute, Limón brings a fiery celebration of the maestro’s legacy with the core group of flamenco greats who performed with de Lucía, including guitarist Antonio Sánchez, vocalist David de Jacoba, and virtuoso flamenco dancer Farru from the reigning flamenco dynasty Los Farrucos. In honor of the occasion, de Lucía’s personal guitar will be displayed on stage during the performance.
