Director Gil Marsalla of last season’s triumph Piaf! The Show returns with this theatrical tribute to the greatest French songs of the post-WWII era, featuring the music of Maurice Chevalier, Charles Trenet, Josephine Baker, Yves Montand and more, with Anne Carrere reprising her Piaf! role as the legendary Edith Piaf.
Set among the nightclubs and street life of post-war Paris, an aspiring artist arrives in the arts district of Montmartre looking to make a name for herself, and along the way, meets Piaf and a host of the city’s most iconic stars of the French hit parade, eventually finding love in the City of Lights. Conceived and directed by the Nice-based theatrical maverick Marsalla, whose other works celebrate the French cabaret of the early 20th century and music hall legend Charles Aznavour, Paris! Le Spectacle marks a welcome return to San Francisco for Carrere, a young French performer whose vibrant alto, vivacious humor, and magnetic presence have made her “Edith Piaf’s legitimate musical heiress.”
The show has toured extensively in Europe and South America, and makes its Bay Area debut with this Herbst performance.
