Original show description below.

“One of the most ambitious and literary songwriters of her generation” (Rolling Stone), Rosanne Cash is America’s foremost musical woman of letters, a singularly literate and incisive artist whose poignant vocals turn every song into a revelatory tale.

For these 4-exclusive performances, Rosanne celebrates the 30 year anniversary of the first album she recorded in NYC, with now music partner and husband John Leventhal, titled The Wheel. Keeping with the Manhattan-theme, Cash and her stellar band will also be debuting music from her forthcoming Broadway musical, Norma Rae, which is an adaptation of the 1979 hit film about a labor union in North Carolina, starring Sally Field.

A singular artist at the peak of her interpretive powers, Cash landed nearly a dozen #1 country hit singles while earning 16 GRAMMY nominations and four wins, including three for her 2009 Blue Note release, The River & The Thread.

She’s a former SFJAZZ Resident Artistic Director with a lengthy history on the Miner stage, and returns following her 2022 performances revisiting her GRAMMY-nominated 2009 project The List with a 30th anniversary celebration of music from her pivotal 1993 album The Wheel — the first recording she made after leaving the Nashville scene for New York and the first created in collaboration with her musical and eventual life partner, guitarist, and producer John Leventhal.

This night will also be a recognition of the art Cash and Leventhal have created over the ensuing years, along with a sneak peek at some of the material from Cash’s upcoming musical based on the Oscar-winning 1979 Martin Ritt drama Norma Rae, which starred Sally Field as a North Carolina factory worker turned labor union activist.
