ABOUT THE MUSIC

Born in Tremé to a family steeped in the New Orleans music tradition, trombonist Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews made his debut at age four at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival as a guest of Bo Diddley. The musician, producer, and philanthropist leads the super-powered band Orleans Avenue, has released a dozen albums, and has worked with a staggering list of stars including U2, Lenny Kravitz, Dr. John, Foo Fighters, and Rebirth Brass Band.

There is no band on earth better suited for this auspicious celebration than Red Baraat — a band whose irresistible sound was described by the Boston Globe as “new-breed marching-band music that’s part Punjabi wedding, part New Orleans second line, and all New York.” Led by the charismatic percussionist Sunny Jain, the Brooklyn octet whips up a raucously fun mix of Indian bhangra rhythms, go-go music, jazz, hip-hop and Crescent City brass funk.
