WONWAY POSIBUL (8:00 PM - 10:00 PM, SFCM)

Juan “Wonway Posibul” Amador is an MC, DJ, actor, and radio host who lives and works in San Francisco, California. A child of Hip Hop culture, Juan was transfixed when a neighbor’s illegal cable connection netted him the first episode of Yo! MTV Raps on his family’s television screen in 1988. He began writing his own raps not long after. Later through destiny, good fortune, and the support of friends, Juan would cross paths with turntables and stages and add new loves to his musical practice.

Years of open mics, garage sessions, and table reads led to freestyle battle championships, DJ residencies in New York and Los Angeles, national theatre tours, performances around the world, and a GRAMMY nomination. Juan’s next goal is to meld his artistic disciplines and expand his expression in the digital space.

HSAS & RJAM (8:00 PM - 10:00 PM, SFCM + 10:00 PM – 12:00 AM, JOE HENDERSON LAB)

The SFJAZZ High School All-Stars is a pre-professional training program for Bay Area high school age jazz musicians. Comprising a Big Band and smaller, self-directed ensembles, the All-Stars rehearse and perform throughout the school year at the SFJAZZ Center and at select events, receive mentorship and professional training by leading jazz professionals, record a professional studio album including original student compositions, and appear at prestigious national music festivals and competitions. Alumni Ambassadors of the program return to our stages and classrooms to inspire future generations of aspiring musicians.

The San Francisco Conservatory of Music’s Roots, Jazz, & American Music (RJAM) program links a world-class music conservatory to an award-winning jazz concert venue at SFJAZZ. A program for undergraduate and postgraduate students that takes a holistic approach to jazz training, RJAM prepares the next generation of great jazz artists by engaging students in an innovative model of apprenticeship with all-star faculty, including members of the SFJAZZ Collective. Students in the RJAM program have the opportunity to perform in multiple venues in the Bay Area, and to collaborate and learn from some of the top jazz artists on the concert circuit today.
