The supremely soulful vocalist and Bay Area native Amy D is a leading light on the scene, blending neo-soul, jazz, and R&B into her entrancing musical signature. On the heels of her Michael Aaberg-produced debut album Like You, she performs a reprise of her 2022 Hotplate performance dedicated to music from the great Sarah Vaughan’s classic 1961 Roulette album After Hours, along with some tunes from the follow-up, 1963’s Sarah +2.

Prior to each performance, DJ Weekend Girl will spin a special curated vinyl DJ set that compliments this evening's music.

At the peak of her creative powers in 1960, Sarah Vaughan left her contract with Mercury Records and signed to the fledgling Roulette label, releasing an impressive eleven albums during her five-year stint before returning to Mercury in 1965.

She recorded two intimate sessions during that period that set her voice against just guitar and bass accompaniment, and the first, After Hours, was a deeply romantic, ballad-heavy affair featuring hushed takes on the standards “Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye,” “Great Day,” “Easy to Love,” and “In a Sentimental Mood,” backed by the sympathetic strings of bassist George Duvivier and guitarist Mundell Lowe.
Talking about the performance, Amy D says, “We are definitely hoping to highlight the romantic and understated aesthetic that Sarah put forth in After Hours.”
