Visiting Presenter – KRONOS FESTIVAL 2018

Kronos Quartet with Mahsa Vahdat, Zakir Hussain, CocoRosie + more

Apr 26
Miner Auditorium

To kick off Kronos Festival 2018, two favorites return. Indian tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain and Persian singer Mahsa Vahdat each join Kronos Quartet on stage – Hussain to premiere his Pallavi, and Vahdat to follow up her “riveting” 2017 performance, which was singled out by the Chronicle as the “evening’s real splendor.” Kronos and the experimental duo CocoRosie come together for the first time to debut a new project. Festival artist-in-residence David Coulter and Kronos pay tribute to the memory of musician Ralph Carney with a performance of his Lament for Charleston. Kronos also plays a recent work by Egyptian electro-chaabi pioneer Islam Chipsy. More details to be announced, check below for up-to-date program information.

Artist Website

For more than 40 years, San Francisco’s Grammy-winning Kronos Quartet has reimagined and redefined the string quartet experience. Kronos’ fourth annual hometown music festival highlights new and recent collaborations with incredible guests performing in six concerts over three days.

The quartet remains as geographically, politically and spiritually feisty as ever. Forget about genre; Kronos made that an irrelevant term ages ago.
