Here are five things to know about the young drum phenom, Jamison Ross.

  1. In 2012, Ross won the Thelonius Monk International Jazz Competition for drums, the most prestigious award in jazz.
  2. Jamison found himself in the spotlight in high school when he was featured in the 2007 documentary Chops, chronicling Jazz at Lincoln Center's Essentially Ellington Festival.
  3. After being invited to the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Residency at D.C.'s Kennedy Center, Ross was "discovered" by GRAMMY-award winning singer Carmen Lundy, and recorded on Lundy's Changes and Soul to Soul.
  4. Jamison Ross also sings, beautifully! Hear him cover Norah Jones' "Seven Years."
  5. Ross released his debut project Jamison on Concord Jazz in 2015, featuring Late Show with Stephen Colbert bandleader Jon Batiste.
