Bookkeeper
ABOUT THIS POSITION
The San Francisco Jazz Organization (SFJAZZ) is seeking a Bookkeeper to join its Finance team. Reporting to the Controller, with additional accountability to the Associate Director of Finance & Administration, this full‐time, salaried position helps to manage the accounts payable and accounts receivable aspects of SFJAZZ and assist the team with administrative payroll tasks and other financial duties. Ideal candidates have relevant experience as a Bookkeeper and a strong interest in the performing arts.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Recording transactions (revenue and expense) and posting them to various accounts
- Process payments (checks, ACH, and wire transfers) in a timely manner
- Ensuring approval policies and support documents are intact for all payments
- Ensuring proper coding of expenses and revenue
- Conducting daily banking activities including deposits, check printing, and distribution
- Monitoring and recording deposits and wire transfers
- Preparing and processing IRS 1099 and 1042 Forms annually
- Maintaining a well‐organized filing system for all vendors
- Maintaining communication with all departments for payables and receivables
- Responsible for monitoring due dates to ensure all payments are made on time
- Responsible for ensuring all receivables are submitted on time and reconciles with CRM
- Communicating with Development Department daily to record daily contributions
- Creating necessary reports and queries
- Organizing all payment and revenue information digitally
- Contacting vendors and internal staff for missing information, discrepancies, necessary paperwork
- Handle administrative payroll tasks on a weekly basis
- Handle administrative credit card tasks monthly including recording of transactions and reviewing for proper coding and supporting documents
- Point person for petty cash reconciliation and disbursements
- Support colleagues on the Finance team as necessary to complete departmental tasks
- Perform other duties as requested

- Confidence and proficiency in the use of technology and software applications.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance
- 5 or more years relevant experience
- Knowledge of GAAP Accounting and the audit process
- Interest or experience in nonprofits performing arts or cultural institutions
- Familiarity with Tessitura (preferred)
- Fluency with Intacct is required.
- Fluency in Microsoft Suite especially Excel and familiar with database concepts.

The SFJAZZ Center is a beautiful and perfect stage for jazz artists and the community to celebrate the living American art form of jazz. The $64 million dollar Center launched in 2013 and the 38-year-old non-profit organization now delivers distinguished programming and education services from the heart of the San Francisco arts district. The pre-pandemic budget for the organization was over $19 million; 60% derived from ticket sales.
