Ensemble Coordinator

The SFJAZZ Ensemble Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of the SFJAZZ High School All-Stars ensembles (the Big Band and the Combo), oversees the Rising Stars private lessons program and all recruitment and training initiatives, and schedules all ensemble activities, both within the SFJAZZ Center and in the community. In addition, the All-Stars program encompasses a pool of alternates, mentorship students, and 300+ Alumni who interact within the program as clinicians and mentors. The Ensemble Coordinator maintains relationships with this extended All-Stars family, and oversees the education department’s recruitment and training efforts in San Francisco, Oakland, and the broader Bay Area through the coordination of school-year classroom visits and free summer workshops for middle and high school students. This position also oversees the annual production of the All-Stars’ album, schedules clinics and masterclasses for the All-Stars and our community partners with visiting artists, and handles the booking of onsite and offsite performances. Must be able to multitask, be thoroughly organized, detailed, and deadline driven. Demonstrated strong project management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required; knowledge of jazz pedagogy and music instruction a must; ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends as well as festival trips. Knowledge of music industry standard practices (event booking, recording and licensing, etc) and familiarity with SF Bay Area jazz education ecosystem a plus. Excellent people skills a must!
