Individual Giving Manager
SUMMARY
As a member of SFJAZZ's Development staff, the Individual Giving Manager plays a critical role in increasing individual donor support and managing the day-to-day operations of the SFJAZZ Membership program. This position manages direct communications to Member Levels up through Benefactors’ level ($450) and the Leaders Circle level ($1,500 and higher).
Under direction of the Individual Giving Director, the Manager will implement and evaluate a comprehensive, multi-year plan to increase membership and support of SFJAZZ, through broad-based communications via direct mail and email. The Manager will execute and manage an annual development communications and events calendar and work closely with SFJAZZ Digital Membership Manager to ensure that digital programs are a seamless experience for all Members. The Individual Giving Manager will work closely with Development, Marketing, Box Office, Operations, and Artistic departments and have a proactive desire to engage a curious and passionate base of music fans.

SFJAZZ is one of the world’s most popular presenters of jazz. The SFJAZZ Center is a beautiful stage for jazz artists and the community to celebrate the living American art form of jazz. The $64 million Center launched in 2013 and the 37-year-old non-profit organization now crafts distinguished programming and education services from the heart of the San Francisco arts district. In March 2020, SFJAZZ launched its initial digital offering Fridays at Five and is poised to expand the SFJAZZ membership experience with a suite of new digital programs in late 2020.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Under the direction of Individual Giving Director, manage, produce, coordinate, and implement direct marketing appeals for direct mail, email, and other campaigns.
- Implement effective electronic solicitation strategies to supplement direct mail efforts and increase participation and per-donor revenue.
- Facilitate meetings, timelines, and communication between Development, Marketing, consultants, and vendors in the design and production of membership campaigns and collateral.
- Manage database and gift administration with Development’s Donor Services team.
- Work with Finance Department to ensure smooth and accurate gift processes and communication
- Analyze membership trends and direct response; Implement decisions that will grow membership and deepen donor engagement.
- Research, identify, and develop new strategies for increasing giving amongst current donors, reinstating lapsed donors, acquiring new donors, and diversifying membership.
- Ensure seamless fulfillment of benefits for Members at all levels and tracking of benefits use; Track and document cultivation and stewardship activities in the Tessitura database and other donor tracking tools.
- Implement, test, and evaluate new strategies to increase donor retention, upgrades, and acquisition, and develop key performance indicators to ensure all goals are reached.
- Research donor and volunteer prospects for recruitment and acquisition efforts.
- Support Board committee meetings, including tracking relationship development steps and action items for committee members and gift officers.
Upon Reopening
- Assist in coordination of receptions at concerts, meet and greets with artists, and other donor cultivation and stewardship opportunities, in collaboration with events staff.
- Work with House Manager and Box Office Manager on-duty to guarantee the best Front of House experience for Members at SFJAZZ productions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree and demonstrated fundraising experience with a focus on individual donors
- Extensive donor database experience, knowledge of Tessitura highly desired
- Familiarity and facility with direct response analysis for both print and digital, A/B testing techniques, data visualization and presentation.
- Strong attention to detail, the ability to prioritize and organize multiple projects.
- Ability to work well with diverse personalities across position levels and departments.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
- Respect for confidentiality of donor information and a strong sense for donor ethics
- Interest in jazz and related music.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The work schedule varies from customary office hours to unpredictable hours, with the potential for long hours during critical periods and special events. This job occasionally requires work during evenings and weekends.
