SFJAZZ Internship Program
The San Francisco Jazz Organization (SFJAZZ) summer intern program offers a direct experience working in the West Coast’s preeminent stand-alone Jazz Center in the US. If you are a student interested in learning more about how a cultural non-profit organization works, considering academic credit, or a job in the future at SFJAZZ then this is for you. SFJAZZ’s internship program seeks talented students of all backgrounds—we value diversity of cultures, races and ethnicities, gender expressions, and abilities. Students from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in the arts are encouraged to apply.
The objective of the SFJAZZ Student Internship Program is to provide students with the skills, experience, and support that will empower them to reach their potential through professional careers and higher education in the arts. The SFJAZZ Student Internship Program is offered to full-time and part- students. Interested students may apply for an internship to be developed by each department to meet the intern’s educational goals. Through behind the scenes, hands-on experience, SFJAZZ’s student internships enrich the academic and professional lives of its interns.
As an intern in SFJAZZ's Education department, I've gotten to read hundreds of student responses to our school programming, and have seen first-hand the importance of jazz education in our Bay Area schools.
Intern candidates apply to selected departments across the Organization where they assist professional staff, interact with the public, conduct research, complete projects, and learn about Jazz. Interns gain valuable training, skills, and work experience as well as an opportunity to build a network of professional contacts.
Our summer internship is a part-time, nine-week session for undergraduate, graduate and PhD students. It includes training, direct work experience, professional development, and a mentorship program that connects interns with former intern on staff.
Interning for SFJAZZ was a wonderfully fascinating glimpse into the behind-the-scenes of the jazz world.
The 2020 summer internship runs from Friday, June 19th through Friday, August 14th. Interns are with us for 9 weeks. Interns attend a welcome breakfast with senior leadership, weekly social outings and lunch and learns with several departments. Interns check in weekly with their supervisors and also mid internship review with HR. The end of the internship is a final presentation and celebration. Part of the value of the intern program is group activities and getting to know not only the Organization but each other.
