Terence Blanchard E-Collective

The West Coast premiere for the new electric band assembled by trumpeter Terence Blanchard that explores the intersection of jazz, R&B, funk and jazz fusion. He describes this fresh, plugged-in project as an outlet to satisfy a yearning he’s had for years to explore areas of music that he’s always loved but never ventured into, with a band made up of musicians who truly stand at the vanguard of today’s jazz. Called “one of the great young talents of his generation” by the trumpeter, 30-year-old Cuban pianist Fabian Almazan won the 2014 DownBeat Critics Poll for Rising Star Pianist and has been working with Blanchard since 2007. Guitarist Charles Altura is an exciting young guitarist and a member of piano giant Chick Corea’s recent assemblage of firebrands, The Vigil. Donald Ramsey is a versatile bassist known for work with a multitude of New Orleans musicians including Dr. John, Irma Thomas, and Marva Wright. Drummer Oscar Seaton has lent his explosive musicality and deep grooves to recordings and tours with Ramsey Lewis, Don Grusin, Lionel Ritchie and Lee Ritenour. Join us for this exclusive event celebrating the West Coast premiere of this new electric project.
