Eliane Elias: Brazilian Night

Musically traveling through the eras and regions of Brazil, pianist, singer, and composer Eliane Elias and a superlative ensemble of Brazilian and American musicians perform invigorating versions of classic songs by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Dori Caymmi, Roberto Menescal, and Ary Barroso as well Elias’ own tropical compositions. She describes this program dubbed “Brazilian Journey” this way: “I want to take my audience on a journey celebrating my homeland. Through song, people will experience my Brazil and by the end of the evening, I’m sure they will know why Brazil is an enchanting place.” Her last Concord Jazz release chronicling this material, Made In Brazil, was the first recording she’s made on her native soil since settling in the U.S. in the 1980s. The session won the 2016 GRAMMY for Best Latin Jazz Album, and features a host of material she will draw upon for this evening, including Ary Barroso’s "Brasil (Aquarela do Brasil)," Antonio Carlos Jobim’s "Águas de Março (Waters of March)," and Ronaldo Bôscoli’s "Rio." Elias will also be performing music from her new album Dance of Time, which debuted at #1 on the iTunes Jazz Album chart and #1 on Billboard’s Traditional Jazz and World Music charts.
