Aaron Diehl Trio

Lauded by The New York Times for his “melodic precision, harmonic erudition, and elegant restraint”, pianist Aaron Diehl made a major impact leading the band fronted by singer Cécile McLorin Salvant. A breakout star whose musical journey began with classical training at seven, the Columbus, Ohio native’s immersion in jazz came courtesy of fellow student Eldar Djangarov at the prestigious Interlochen Summer Camp, an arts institution that jumpstarted the careers of many jazz luminaries including Norah Jones, Bob Mintzer, and Peter Erskine. A year after Diehl won the “outstanding soloist” award from the Lincoln Center Essentially Ellington competition, the pianist, then 19, toured with Wynton Marsalis’ septet and enrolled at Julliard, where his musicianship blossomed under the tutelage of Kenny Barron and Eric Reed. After a pair of live self-released recordings, Diehl made his Mack Avenue debut with The Bespoke Man’s Narrative in 2012 – an acclaimed album that featured SFJAZZ Collective vibraphonist Warren Wolf. His new session, Space, Time, Continuum, was listed as one of 2015’s top jazz albums in The New York Observer and features legendary saxophonist Benny Golson.
