Erik Jekabson plays Chet Baker

Closing out the year, Erik Jekabson remembers Chet Baker with a Hotplate tribute fit for all those “cool jazz” die-hards out there.

About Chet Baker

The primary catalyst of the West Coast school of cool jazz during the 50s, Chet Baker’s intimate playing, smooth vocal style and photogenic looks gained him fame the world over. Dubbed the “Prince” of cool jazz, Baker toured with the likes of Charlie Parker, Stan Getz and Gerry Mulligan; even going on to record with Elvis Costello’s on his tune “Ship Building.” Marred by drug use, the later days of his life would become the substance of myth as attention around his increasing addiction became well publicized. From is early promise to his unfortunate death in 1988; Baker remains to this day a prominent American jazz icon.
