Big Five of Bayview

Free Talk and Performance, PART OF KRONOS LABS

Sat, Jun 1 2019 | 2:00 PM
Joe Henderson Lab

Festival Artist-in-Residence Valérie Sainte-Agathe invites fellow artists and storytellers to the stage to commemorate and celebrate voices of change. Teaching artist Christopher Street joins Sainte-Agathe to remember the Big Five of Bayview. They will discuss the work and legacy of community leaders Bertha Freeman, Osceola Washington, Elouise Westbrook, Ruth Williams, and Rosie Williams, women of tremendous character and energy who stepped forward to advocate for San Francisco’s underserved Bayview–Hunters Point neighborhood. The hour-long event will also include Sainte-Agathe leading a protest music sing-along with banjo player Lee Knight to honor what would have been the 100th birthday of folk music legend and social activist Pete Seeger.

Kronos Labs are free and open to the public; first come, first served.
