Original show description below.

Over the past two decades New York City native Jonathan Kreisberg has quietly become one of jazz’s most formidable guitarists. He returns for his first Bay Area appearance in seven years with music from his career and his most recent New for Now Music release, Capturing Spirits – JKQ Live!

Kreisberg has certainly paid his dues, earning a vaunted reputation by accompanying a disparate array of masters such as Lee Konitz, Joe Henderson, Yosvany Terry, Joe Locke, Donald Edwards, and most importantly the late Hammond B-3 legend Dr. Lonnie Smith (who featured Kreisberg on his last five albums). “He is a passionate musician with great vision, and he is constantly in fiery pursuit of innovation,” said Dr. Lonnie, diagnosing Kreisberg’s condition.

The guitarist possesses jaw-dropping chops and improvisational fluency, but what sets him apart is his commitment to honing a group sound. His quartets have served as an essential proving ground for some of the most prodigious young players on the New York scene. A mid-career master with a deep book of originals, Kreisberg is a state-of-the-art player who knows that jazz thrives best with one hand in the tradition and one hand reaching for the future.
