Original show description below.

The immensely talented Bay Area vocalist makes her debut at SFJAZZ with this Hotplate tribute to Latin pop legend Eydie Gormé and her 1964 collaboration with Trio Los Panchos, Amor. Crouse’s own 2022 album, Canto de Mi Corazón, is a tribute to Gormé and contains versions of many of her hits. As Crouse said in an interview for KQED radio’s The California Report, “Her music, and the music she did in Spanish with Trio Los Panchos, was probably the most memorable music for me growing up.”

Known primarily for her partnership with pianist and vocalist Steve Allen, Gormé had established a career as a solo artist by the time she began work with Allen on The Tonight Show in the early 1950s and had major hits in both English and Spanish.
The success of her 1963 song “Blame it on the Bossa Nova” in the Latin music market led to a collaboration with Trio Los Panchos, who were the most popular bolero group in Latin America at the time. Their first collaborative album for the Columbia label, 1964’s Amor, spent 22 weeks on the charts and contained the hit single “Sabor a Mi,” which became one of Gormé’s signature songs.
