Founded by SFJAZZ in 2004, the SFJAZZ Collective is an all-star ensemble and composer’s workshop that represents what’s happening now in jazz. Since the beginning, the Collective’s mission has been to perform newly commissioned pieces by each member and fresh arrangements of works by modern masters. This year’s Collective performances in Miner Auditorium will take place in November, but this special week in the Joe Henderson Lab to help kick off the 2023-24 Season brings the group together with a decidedly different approach.
In celebration of the Collective’s 20th Anniversary as a working ensemble, an impressive roster of past and present Collective members will reunite to perform in various configurations from solo to trio in an informal, up-close, and personal setting. This is a rare chance to see some of the greatest instrumentalists in modern music in such an intimate space, with set lists that will vary from show to show.
At this time, confirmed artists include current members Mike Rodriguez on trumpet and Warren Wolf on vibraphone along with alumni trombonist Robin Eubanks and bassist Matt Penman. More confirmations will be announced soon!
