Maverick DJ Kid Koala follows up his triumphant 2019 staging of his live-action animation piece Nufonia Must Fall with this all-star hip-hop collaboration with deep Bay Area ties. Releasing their revolutionary self-titled album in 2000 — a record PopMatters says “kicked the door wide open for alternative rap” — Oakland-born rap icon Del the Funky Homosapien, Kid Koala, and San Francisco producing legend Dan the Automator have created a futuristic, funny, imaginative and powerful project chronicling the galactic journey of the sole survivors of a cataclysm on Earth in the year 3030.

Known around the world for his beloved Hieroglyphics crew, Del began his rap career with his cousin Ice Cube’s Da Lench Mob, eventually striking out on his own as a fiercely talented lyricist, solo artist, and collaborator with Souls of Mischief and Blur founder Damon Albarn’s post-modern Gorillaz project.

Given the moniker “scratchmaster general” by Spin, Kid Koala (born Eric San) built his career in the early 2000s with a procession of innovative albums that blend pop-culture ephemera, unusual and humorous samples, cinematic layering, and deeply grooving beats.

Dan the Automator’s résumé reads like a modern pop best-of list, including production credits with Galactic, Cornershop, Handsome Boy Modeling School, Gorillaz, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Kool Keith’s hugely influential Dr. Octagon project, and dozens more.

More

Having released a star-studded follow-up in 2013 with Event 2, the trio reunites for this special event, bringing an irresistible energy and deeply detailed soundscapes to back Del’s rapid-fire linguistic precision.
