SFJAZZ Collective founding alto saxophonist presents Golden City Suite, his musical tribute to the immigrant communities of San Francisco, commissioned by the Hewlett Foundation and SFJAZZ and premiering this season. Over the past year, Zenón has conducted interviews in the city’s Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, African-American, and other ethnic communities, gathering new perspectives on the contributions of immigrants to San Francisco and its evolution. Zenón will highlight moments from this large-scale work for nonet, including trombonist Jacob Garchik.
FAMILY WORKSHOP
An interactive Family Workshop follows this performance and is FREE to matinee ticket-holders, led by musician, educator and Orff music expert Doug Goodkin. Note: This workshop is limited to a first come, first served basis. Sign up in the lobby before the start of the matinee.
