Original show description below.

With “the sensitivity and poignancy of a musician three times his age” (DownBeat), 17-year-old pianist Brandon Goldberg has blazed a trail as a preternaturally talented instrumentalist and composer whose musical maturity and instrumental acuity belie the stereotypical vision of a jazz prodigy.

He is the 2022 winner of the ASCAP Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award — the youngest artist ever to receive the honor — and is a four-time winner of the DownBeat Student Music Awards in both the Jazz Soloist and Original Composition categories.

Beginning on piano at three, the Florida-raised Goldberg was inspired to pursue jazz after hearing Herbie Hancock, Bill Evans, and Oscar Peterson. By the age of 11, the young phenom had already performed with Monty Alexander and Arturo Sandoval, performed Haydn’s Piano Concerto #11 with the South Florida Youth Symphony, and been featured on numerous TEDx talks.

He released his 2019 debut LET’S PLAY at twelve, a standards trio session that received a four-star DownBeat review and was listed among their albums of the year. Goldberg’s newest album, In Good Time, marks a major step in his evolution — a scintillating sextet release that includes five original compositions and features the late drum virtuoso Ralph Peterson Jr. and bassist Luques Curtis along with trumpeter Josh Evans and saxophonist Stacy Dillard.
