Venezuelan string master Jorge Glem is on a mission to elevate the profile of the four-string cuatro to the level of an internationally recognized virtuoso instrument. For this special evening, The Latin GRAMMY winner performs in duo with pianist César Orozco, bringing a blend of jazz and traditional Latin American songs from their new album Stringwise.

The native of Cumaná showed an early inclination towards percussion, and in an effort to save their wits and eardrums, his parents substituted the family pots and pans with the traditional cuatro hanging on the wall, and Glem never looked back — beginning his studies at 6 and infusing his playing with percussive slaps and scrapes that faithfully reproduce the tones and rhythms of the traditional South American percussion section.

As a member of the acclaimed C4 Trío, he received GRAMMY nominations for the group’s 2017 album Pa’ Fuera and 2019’s Tiempo Al Tiempo, and he has shared the stage with Paquito D’Rivera, Rubén Blades, Natalia Lafourcade, and SFJAZZ Collective pianist Edward Simon, with whom he recorded the acclaimed 2017 album Venezuelan Suite.

Cuban/Venezuelan pianist Orozco has emerged as a major young artist since moving to the U.S. in 2012. He has collaborated with Yosvanny Terry, Paquito D’Rivera, and Pedrito Martinez and appeared on over 70 albums including four as a leader.
