Kronos Festival 2019 continues with Kronos and CocoRosie reuniting on stage to perform new songs by the Casady sisters with the San Francisco Girls Chorus. Frequent collaborator Jherek Bischoff joins Kronos on bass guitar to perform his own compositions and arrangements. Filmmaker Sam Green enlists Kronos in Por Vida!, a live documentary short about the tattoos inspired by San Francisco’s legacy business Casa Sanchez. Highlighting Kronos’ Fifty for the Future education initiative, the Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts’ Dragon Saxophone Quartet performs music by Malian musician Fodé Lassana Diabaté (Trio Da Kali). More details to be announced; check below for up-to-date program information.
For 45 years, San Francisco’s Grammy-winning Kronos Quartet has reimagined and redefined the string quartet experience. Kronos’ fifth annual music festival spotlights their frequent work with singers and storytellers in four concerts and other events over three days.
It’s hard to imagine a time when the Kronos Quartet was not emphatically crossing musical boundaries, from its early days covering Jimi Hendrix to its most recent collaborations with Malian griots.
