“Hers is a voice so big and so spine-tinglingly beautiful that on a nightly basis it does the near impossible” (The Guardian). The two-time GRAMMY winner has toured for over 25 years with the Rolling Stones and made a standout appearance in the Oscar-winning documentary 20 Feet From Stardom.

Beginning her career in the early 1980s under the stage name Xēna and releasing the breakdance anthem “On the Upside,” the Brooklyn native counts Freda Payne and Melba Moore among her influences and has balanced a highly successful solo career with session work, performing for over two decades with both the Rolling Stones and soul giant Luther Vandross. Fischer won a GRAMMY for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance in recognition of the standout track “How Can I Ease the Pain” from her 1991 album So Intense — a single that hit #1 on the U.S. R&B chart — while building an impressive résumé as a collaborator, working with artists ranging from Tina Turner, Gregory Porter, and Chris Botti to Sting and industrial rock juggernaut Nine Inch Nails. She made her theatre debut playing the starring role in the off-Broadway play Born to Sing!, and was featured prominently in director Morgan Neville’s 2013 documentary 20 Feet From Stardom, winning her second GRAMMY for Best Music Film. For her SFJAZZ debut, Fischer and her trio Grand Baton put a fresh spin on rock anthems and blues standards, fusing them to African, Middle Eastern, and Caribbean rhythms.

The stunning power and suppleness of her voice sparks the soul, a flame that burns long after she's left the stage.
