“A drummer around whom a cult of admiration has formed” (The New York Times), Mark Guiliana is one of the definitive rhythm makers of the 21st century and a GRAMMY-winner for his foundational work on late pop icon David Bowie’s final album, Blackstar. Influenced in equal measure by jazz giants Tony Williams and Elvin Jones as well as electronic music luminaries Squarepusher and Aphex Twin, Guiliana has developed a singular style possessed of both a jazz master’s dexterous fluidity and the jackhammer beats of drum and bass.

The New Jersey native came to prominence through his association with Israeli bassist Avishai Cohen and his own electro-acoustic trio Heernt, building a buzz and reputation that exploded his profile, earning accolades from the DownBeat Critics Poll and Modern Drummer magazine, who called him “the guy to watch if you want to know where the great art of drumming is right now— and where it could be headed.” Guiliana’s list of collaborators comprises many of the trailblazing jazz artists of our time including Brad Mehldau, Dave Douglas, Donny McCaslin, Jason Lindner, and Lionel Loueke, and as a leader, Guiliana has performed widely with both his improvisational Beat Music project and his Jazz Quartet, showcasing the drummer’s voice as a composer on a pair of albums including the acclaimed 2017 Motéma Music release, Jersey. For these nights, Guiliana unveils his latest group featuring a “two horn” front line including his Jazz Quartet bandmates Chris Morrissey and Jason Rigby as well as second saxophonist Mike Lewis (Andrew Bird, Happy Apple, Bon Iver).
