Listening party w/ Stanley Clarke

Step into the SFJAZZ “living room” and hear artists and tastemakers spinning their favorite recordings while in conversation. Listening Parties offer listeners the chance to get behind-the- scenes and hear about music from the artist’s perspective. The format is an on-stage conversation in the Robert N. Miner Auditorium, accompanied by the artist’s pick of recorded, and sometimes live, excerpts. The conversation closes with questions from the audience followed by a reception with complimentary drinks and bites.

This Listening Party features 2022 NEA Jazz Master and five-time GRAMMY winning composer and bassist Stanley Clarke. In coversation with Bay Area composer, bassist and educator Marcus Shelby, Stanley will discuss his remarkable career, and discuss his SFJAZZ residency, which includes a solo performance, a duo concert with the great Cuban pianist Gonzalo Rubulcaba, music he scored for the film Poetic Justice, and a tribute to his late friend Chick Corea and the group the legendary group they formed together, Return to Forever. Clarke’s performances run August 10-13, 2023.
