High School All-Stars

Alumni Program

The All-Stars Alumni Program creates opportunities that include:

Mentoring the Current crop of All-Stars
Alumni looking to volunteer time can be paired one-on-one with current Mentorship Students. Not to be confused with private lessons, these mentorship sessions will focus on things like rehearsal strategies, gig planning, time management, auditions, and networking.

Alumni Ambassadors
Alumni Ambassadors go into schools to perform, lead presentations/clinics, answer student questions about careers/college/etc, and discuss the High School All Stars program. As part of our diversity initiative, this role focuses on local BIPOC and/or women/non-binary Alumni. Musicians are compensated for their time.

Teaching artist positions
Alumni with pedagogical experience have the opportunity to teach clinics during the year, lead free summer workshops during the summer, and sit on our audition panels as adjudicators.

Commission awards
SFJAZZ Education supports High School All-Stars alumni through the commissioning of original pieces for the High School All-Stars Big Band.

Online features
Alumni are highlighted in: monthly alumni interviews on the SFJAZZ blog, press features on High School All-Stars and SFJAZZ Facebook pages, and promotion of upcoming performances. Alumni are also invited to be guest bloggers, especially in tandem with upcoming programming.

Internships
All-Stars alumni are engaged as SFJAZZ interns, both paid and unpaid for university credit. These internships function as real-world experience and research for performance studies, music education, business economics, marketing and distribution, musicology, ethnomusicology, program management, etc.
