School Day Concerts

Watch Overview

Email us at schoolprograms@sfjazz.org

These free performances are tailored to students in grades K-12 with leading jazz artists and educators at the SFJAZZ Center's beautiful Miner Auditorium, as well as direct to public and charter middle schools across San Francisco and Oakland. Students experience jazz in all its forms, explore how the African Diaspora shaped our musical landscape, participate in a highly interactive environment, and learn how jazz is alive, relevant and continuing to grow today!

It's such a pleasure to see the ideas and inspiration generated from their visit to SFJAZZ!

2018–19 Concerts

FEB 22 (K-12) | 10:30-11:30 AM
Marcus Shelby's Band Featuring Poet Paul Flores

On February 22 2019 SFJAZZ Education is hosting a very special School Day Concert in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights! Marcus Shelby's quintet featuring vocalist Tiffany Austin, poet Paul Flores, and harpist Destiny Muhammad will present an interactive concert for students that highlights the UDHR articles, while the songs and narration will contextualize them within two United States historical events already familiar to students, the abolition of slavery and the Civil Rights Movement.

We also stream these concerts across the state of California.
