Original show description below.

“A present-day multicultural wonder” (New Yorker), Anat Cohen is the most acclaimed clarinetist of her generation and a commanding tenor saxophonist. An artist at the leading edge of a wave of brilliant Israeli improvisers who have energized the New York jazz scene over the past two decades, Cohen celebrates her 50th birthday.

The program will feature a range of collaborations that have defined Anat’s musical journey. She will share the stage with Marcello Gonçalves, her duo partner in their heartfelt explorations of Brazilian sounds; Quartetinho, celebrating their collective musical adventures; and The Anat Cohen Tentet, under the direction of her longtime collaborator and friend Oded Lev-Ari, showcasing the richness and vibrancy of her large ensemble work.

Through a dynamic and personal program, Anat brings together musicians who are not just colleagues but true family by the deep bonds of music. The music unfolds as an exploration of instrumental settings, seamlessly shifting from intimate duo to the full energy of a large ensemble, flexibly weaving through genres, emotions, and the spirit of connection.

“A present-day multicultural wonder” (New Yorker), Anat Cohen  brings the party back to SFJAZZ, celebrating her 50th birthday with a program featuring a range of collaborations that have defined her musical journey.
