A 2026 NEA Jazz Master, vocalist and composer Carmen Lundy is a bona fide giant in the music who first made her mark more than four decades ago and has led an incredibly influential career. She makes her first appearance on the Miner stage with this highly anticipated performance.

Championed by jazz giants like Geri Allen, Billy Childs, Bobby Watson and Walter Bishop Jr., Lundy is a renaissance woman whose creativity knows no bounds. A brilliant songwriter with several contemporary standards to her credit (“These Things You Are to Me”), she’s an actress, painter, bandleader, arranger and composer with an extensive book of finely wrought original songs.

On stage, she’s a riveting performer, utterly at ease and open to wherever the music needs to go. Already well-established on the New York scene in 1985 when Dr. Herb Wong’s Black Hawk label released her first album Good Morning Kiss, she’s recorded a stellar body of work since then for JVC, Arabesque and Justin Time (which reissued Good Morning Kiss in 2002).

Lundy has been running her own label Afrasia since 2005’s Jazz and the New Songbook: Live at the Madrid, and her two most recent albums, 2019’s Modern Ancestors and 2022’s Fade to Black, were each nominated for a GRAMMY.
