WeBop at SFJAZZ: Gumbo Group

ABOUT WEBOP AT SFJAZZ
We are thrilled to partner with our sister organization—Jazz at Lincoln Center—in launching the West Coast version of the acclaimed early childhood music education program, WeBop! The perfect preamble to our Family Matinee program and designed for youngsters between the ages 2-5 and their caregivers, WeBop at SFJAZZ is designed to introduce young children to jazz music and performance in a safe, welcoming and interactive setting. Classes are 45 minutes long and provide plenty of opportunities to learn, explore, and play.  

ABOUT THIS CLASS
Musical activities for the Gumbo Group utilize dramatic play as a core learning element and provide opportunities for discovery and exploration through jazz. The multisensory nature of music—hearing, moving, touching, vocalizing—creates many entry points for children in this age group to be engaged and develop. They will learn to identify and repeat short musical patterns, explore important musical concepts—such as dynamics and tempo—through singing, listening, playing, and improvising with jazz tunes and stories.
