A rising force on the scene, saxophonist Camille Kerani and her band take on Coltrane’s 1965 masterpiece to honor his centennial, bringing an exuberant sense of exploration that pays tribute to his enduring spirit.
A Berkeley High alumnus who rose through the SFJAZZ High School All-Stars program to attend UCLA, Kerani has emerged as one of the most exciting young voices in contemporary jazz, blending technical command with a fearless spirit of improvisation. Equally rooted in tradition and experimentation, Kerani represents a new generation of artists expanding jazz’s language with intelligence, emotional depth, and striking originality.
Released in 1965, A Love Supreme remains the defining statement of John Coltrane’s artistic and spiritual vision. Recorded with his classic quartet including pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Jimmy Garrison and drummer Elvin Jones, the four-part suite fused modal jazz, improvisation, gospel feeling, and devotional purpose into a work that transcended genre. More than a landmark jazz album, it became a meditation on faith, struggle, and transcendence that influenced generations of musicians across jazz, classical, rock, and world music. At the time of Coltrane’s centennial, A Love Supreme endures as both a cultural touchstone and a living source of inspiration, celebrated worldwide for its emotional intensity, fearless innovation, and profound humanity.
