For this exclusive week, guitar giant John Scofield revisits his hugely influential electric jazz songbook from his iconic career with an all-star quartet including organist Larry Goldings, bassist Oteil Burbridge, and drummer Adam Dietch.
Though Scofield is recognized as one of jazz’s most creative guitarists of the past half century, the three-time GRAMMY Award winner has often branched off from the straight-ahead path to get his funk on. After five decades of prolific touring and recording, he’s looking back at many of his now classic fusion groove compositions with Electrospective. Sco being Sco, he’s not interested in replicating past triumphs. Rather, he plans to reimagine fan favorites from the bands with which he created 1987’s Blue Matter, 1997’s A GoGo, and 2002’s Überjam, as well as new material in the same vein.
He’s bringing the same ensemble aesthetic to Electrospective, relying on interpretative input from long-time collaborators and new friends. Multidimensional keyboardist Larry Goldings and Überjam drummer Adam Deitch, who won a GRAMMY for his work with Lettuce, have toured and recorded extensively with Sco. Bass star Oteil Burbridge, revered for his work with Dead & Company, Tedeschi Trucks Band, and the Allman Brothers, brings a fresh set of frets to Scofield’s deepest grooves.

"Timeless guitarist John Scofield has the biggest audience of his career creating effortless, playful jazz that swings like yesterday but appeals in the present. Joyous."
