With “a lush, honeyed baritone with just a hint of smoldering melancholy, at once sensual and brooding” (Pitchfork), the Indian-born, Fremont-raised vocalist Sid Sriram is a visionary artist who has melded his traditional Carnatic upbringing with the experience he gleaned as a stadium-filling superstar in India to forge a fresh approach to contemporary soul and R&B. He brings his singular gift to his first SFJAZZ appearance.

A graduate of Mission San Jose High School and Boston’s Berklee School of Music, Sriram applied his early experience an education in traditional South Indian Carnatic music to his renowned work as a composer and playback singer, collaborating with the likes of star director Mani Ratnam and composer A.R. Rahman and appearing on the soundtracks to over 200 films across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi cinema.

Now a resident of Chennai, Sriram released his debut album, Entropy, in 2019 — a worldwide hit blending his Carnatic background with elements of global pop, hip-hop, and modern soul.

His follow up for the American Def Jam label, 2023's Sidharth was made in partnership with producer Ryan Olson (Bon Iver, Lizzo) and features an appearance by Bon Iver frontman, singer, and songwriter Justin Vernon.
