Andrew Bird

Oct 18 - Oct 19
Miner Auditorium

A major voice in modern music who first gained fame as part of the 1990s swing revival stars Squirrel Nut Zippers and later his band Bowl of Fire, GRAMMY-nominated singer, whistler, violinist, and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Bird brings his eclectic and intimate blend of folk rock, pop, jazz, and chamber music to the intimate space of Miner Auditorium.

Beginning prodigiously on violin at age four, the Chicago-born Bird has created a musical aesthetic that feels simultaneously contemporary and archaic, with “songs that have a pastoral, homespun feel, but they also have a darkness and emotional complexity not typically associated with folk rock” (The New York Times). He is a prolific composer, releasing 13 albums that explore the depths of the human experience, and composed the theme music for the darkly comedic FX program Baskets created by Louis C.K. and Zach Galifianakis. Appearances on Late Show with David Lettermanand Late Night with Conan O’Brien cemented Bird’s stature as a performer, and he recorded with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, contributing vocals and violin on a cover of "Shake It and Break It" on the 2018 SFJAZZ Gala honorees’ benefit recording Preservation. His new album Are You Serious, is his first traditional album since 2012.
