A former SFJAZZ High School All-Star and now Artist on the Rise, trumpeter Kate Williams makes her SFJAZZ debut as a bandleader with her latest project.
The enormously talented Vacaville native attended an SFJAZZ Jazz Girls Day workshop as a high school freshman in the spring of 2015 and made an immediate impact on the faculty, staff, and her fellow students, and she’s reached height after height over the ensuing years, winning multiple DownBeat Student Awards, performing with Monterey Jazz Festival’s Next Generation Jazz Orchestra, and becoming a Pacific Jazz Ambassador at University of the Pacific’s Brubeck Institute.
Williams has performed alongside Terri Lyne Carrington, Ingrid Jensen, Joshua Redman, Ambrose Akinmusire, and Sean Jones, as well as the Bay Area’s Electric Squeezebox Orchestra, and returns to SFJAZZ as a young veteran performer, composer, and bandleader.
