January 4, 2016 | by Ross Eustis

Gil Scott-Heron

As we gear up for Eric Harland's much-anticipated 4-night residency (Jan. 7-10), we asked the 2015-16 Resident Artistic Director to share a few recordings that speak to each night's theme. From Gil Scott-Heron and Fela Kuti, to James BrownNat King Cole and Blind Willie Johnson - here are five songs that inspired Harland's Rhythm of Revolution.

James Brown "Cold Sweat"

Nat King Cole "Here's That Rainy Day"

Fela Kuti "Shuffering and Shmiling"

Gil Scott Heron "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised"
